of swirls, mocha frap andcelebratedly heated discussions between me and lala

i ought to be sleeping already but i just had to take this down before my muses take leave of me. today, sunday, january 10 of the newest year 2010, i hung out for a few hours with lala at starbs trinoma. it was fun. i had fun...especially when we got to the part where we were clashing ideas. i was trying to explain to her why i had not taken to the blog swirlsfromthebowlofchina anymore and i said that i had disagreed with some of the views or some of the underlying philosophies of life that the blogger espoused. what we were both so caught up about was that i had highlighted a certain thought in one of ms. swirlsfromthebowlofchina had expressed - she was talking about having coffee with this person and then she had gotten riled up over something where she had reacted in her mind - "don't people understand that one's thoughts over someone is more beautiful than that person itself?" i don't know if she qualified that comment with an adverb - sometimes one'...

apples

i eat at least 2 apples a day. but today, i found my two JED China Fuji apples just a wee bit too waxy. and i heard about people putting wax on apples. i had gasped then. don't they know it's a crime?! people eat those stuff!! (hehe) anyway, so i hurried to my lappytoppy and checked the net to see if wax on apples were dangerous to your health and apparently, there has been no conclusive evidence. or no agreed-upon conclusion, period. according to a random internet site (wow, i'm so randomly scientific about this, hehe), people just fear that the wax could contain chemicals that could be dangerous, or for others, it's a mere matter of taste...wax makes apples taste a little different. still, for several religions, they're concerned about whether the wax used is beef tallow, which would make consuming waxed apples taboo...the wax would have to be removed before eating. me, i'm torn. i could follow several suggestions on how to remove the wax or i could ju...

the most cheerful sight in the world

hot plate

i spent the afternoon and the rest of the evening today with Lala and Allison. first off, i met up with lala at 3pm in fullybooked after which we proceeded to while away time at coffee bean. being incredibly decisive people (hehe), we vacillated endlessly from option to option on what to eat, what to drink, how to spend the rest of the early evening till after a few forevers, we finally decided somehow on a course of unplanned action. =) so to map out our light trek throughout the familiar spaces of malls and quezon city, lala and i met at fullybooked (initial starting point, although the initial initial starting point is really our respective houses), then we went to coffee bean, then we headed to watson's for our womanly toiletries, afterwhich we decided to check out __________, then we made a stop at ________. allison joined us at blank no. 1 and after passing through blank no. 2, we went to the department store to look at shoes. (just look, not buy...sigh). lala wanted to ...

the anti-dawson

i remember when i was in high school, i used to watch dawson's creek season 1 and season 2 so religiously. they were far more relevant and important to me that time than say, schoolwork or even an examination, haha! (my previous teachers should know that by now, at age 23, i am totally repentant of my inattention and frivolity in class, hehe). i revisited the series a while back. a friend of mine had emphatically spoken of the series as having nice conversational lines...maganda daw ang mga conversations. being a 'word-nut' myself, of course, my curiosity was aroused and i decided to check some parts of the series again through my good internet companion - youtube. (i live in two worlds - reality and youtube, haha!) anyway, one time dawson was asked by jen why he was so into movies...(for a 15-year-old, he was particularly dedicated and serious about it already). and in his words, "i reject reality." fiction and movies are so much better. but now, i'm feeli...

the return of LOTR

no, the Lord of the Rings trilogy won't be coming back to the screen anytime soon, although reportedly, a fourth movie on the prequel The Hobbit is supposedly currently in the works and will be out in your nearest theater soon. by the title of this blogpost, i mean i shall be returning these borrowed treasures to their rightful owner, Miss LA, after they have stayed with me for a sojourn of more than a year. Haha, it took me that long to finish the esteemed trilogy. (Sorry, lala!) i could write a poem singing praises of LOTR and reliving my shared moments with the master storyteller Tolkien on the adventures in Middle-Earth...already started one but it might take several days to finish or come to a close. Lord of the Rings is definitely going down in the history of my heart as one of my most beloved book experiences in the world!!! anyway, i am sure Miss LA will be glad of their return and i can see that in the future some book seller is going to be made happy by me when i purcha...

i'm a doctor,

not a physicist!" - is supposedly a quote from star trek (2009), the movie. while engaged in a conversation that was fast becoming heated, a friend took that quote from that movie and inserted it in, with his own spin to it, of course. reading melville, i came across a line of his in moby dick that vaguely recalls that quote and i wonder if star trek's scriptwriter had not somehow borrowed from him. melville in page 168, while speaking of cetology: I am the architect, not the builder. melville was first! (so he has first dibs, hehe) more melvillisms : "For small erections may be finished by their first architects; grand ones, true ones, ever leave the copestone to posterity." "This whole book is but a draught - nay, but the draught of a draught." "Oh, Time, Strength, Cash, and Patience!" -all from page 159, Moby-Dick P.S. ang galing ng pagkasulat ng Chapter 34 The Cabin-Table...funny and interesting depiction...=)
